🧪 Health Testing + Quarantine

The health of our tortoises is our highest priority. All incoming tortoises at Torts R Us follow strict intake, quarantine, and veterinary testing protocols designed to protect both new arrivals and our existing residents.

Our protocols include:

• Mandatory quarantine for all new intakes

• Veterinary examinations prior to integration

• PCR testing for serious and contagious pathogens (Herpes, Ranavirus, Mycoplasma, and TINC)

• Fecal testing to screen for parasites

• Ongoing health monitoring throughout quarantine

Tortoises remain in quarantine until test results are received and cleared. This process ensures we are not introducing illness into the sanctuary and allows each animal the time it needs to stabilize, recover, and begin proper care.

While quarantine and testing require time, space, and financial resources, they are essential to ethical rescue and lifelong sanctuary care.
